Excess of imports over exports and excess of exports over imports is called trade deficit and trade surplus. Excess of imports of goods like agricultural and manufactured products, raw material, and consumer goods and services over the exports of goods leads to the negative balance of trade. The factor that affects a country's balance of trade includes the strength and weaknesses of its currency value in respect to those of countries with which it trades. The most common barriers to trade are tariffs, import quotas and embargoes. A tariff is a tax imposed by government on import goods and quota places a limit on amount of product that may be imported and exported.
